Overview
This intriguing week-long tour is a fascinating exploration of the highlights of Macedonia. It offers opportunities to experience the magnificent lake of Ohrid, a rich variety of fine architecture, ancient churches, monasteries, and a touch of the Orient in a splendid display of old bazaars. Our scenic route will take you in some of Macedonia’s most picturesque mountainous and verdant green countryside, while you will be able to taste the hospitality of the friendly local people at dinner time with folkloric music and costumes. It’s a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with Macedonia, one of the last european hidden treasure.
Itinerary
Touring: Skopje - St. Jovan Bigorski
- Ohrid
Day 1: Skopje
Transfer to your Skopje hotel, followed by a scenic
sightseeing tour to see the monument to and house of
Skopje-born Mother Teresa, the lovely St Panteleimon's
Church, the 15th century Stone Bridge and much
more. Afternoon visit to Matka Lake and the 14th
century St Andrew's church. Dinner in a local
restaurant with folklore music. (D,O)
Day 2: Skopje – St Jovan Bigorski
Monastery – Ohrid
After breakfast, departure for a picturesque journey
through Macedonia’s most beautiful region en route
to the lovely St Jovan Bigorski Monastery, which
boasts a magnificent iconostasis and an 11th century
icon said to have miraculous healing powers. Dinner
and Overnight in Ohrid. (B,D,O)
Day 3: Ohrid – St Naum – Ohrid
We travel to St.Naum Monastery, first established in
the 10th century, which is notable for its fabulous
iconostasis with gold plating dating from 1711.

Day 4: Ohrid - Bitola
Today, a fascinating sightseeing tour of Ohrid’s
best sights, such as the 11th century Church of St
Sophia and the Antique theatre dating from 200BC
offering stunning views of the lake. We then enjoy a
scenic drive to Bitola, with dinner in a local
restaurant with folklore music. (B,D,O)
Day 5: Bitola
Sightseeing around Bitola, including the
archaeological site of ancient Heraclea Lyncestis,
the fascinating Širok Sokak neo-classical main
street, the old bazaar, the fine Clock Tower and
Kurbinovo, a typical local village. Dinner and
overnight in Bitola. (B,D,O)
Day 6: Bitola – Prilep (Treskavec
Monastery) – Štip
Departure for the visit of the 12th century
Treskavec monastery in the mountains near Prilep.
Later, we travel to Štip and visit the 14th century
church of St John the Baptist. (B,D,O)
Day 7: Štip – Kriva Palanka –
Skopje
We travel to two religious sites richly decorated
with frescoes, firstly the lovely ethereal 14th
century St Staro Nagoricae church, and then go
onward to St Joachim Osogovski monastery complex in
Kriva Palanka, first founded in the 12th century and
set amongst verdant green woods. Transfer to Skopje.
