Description
Novo mesto (literally, “new town”) is a town in the
Dolenjska, region, where you will find a fascinating
heritage of historic places, archaeology, rural
tradition, religion, festivals and cultural events.
It's considered the political, economic and cultural
center of Dolenjska, situaded along the banks of the
Krka River. The Krka Valley is becoming a place for
wine enthusiast, tasting the locally produced
“cviček” wine, a wine made from several different
varieties of local grapes. Sightseeing includes
visit of Glavni trg, Kandijski most, Mestna hiša,
vodnjak na Glavnem trgu, kapiteljska cerkev sv.
Miklavža, Dolenjska museum with 19 th century glass
paintings and commemorative weddings jugs, the
library of Miran Jarc…
Kostanjevica is the oldest (since 1252) as well as
the smallest town of the region Dolenjska. Its
central part is situaded on the artificial island of
the river Krka. Named after the chestnut trees
surrounding it, but it is also called Venice of
Dolenjska because of the common floods.
Sightseeing includes visit of Gallery of Božidar
Jakac, Monastery art gallery, Kostanjevica cave
called also Studena jama (Cold cave) with its unique
species of snail and Krakovski gozd (the forest of
Krakovo).
