Description
Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia,
and its character is completely different from that
of Ljubljana and the western part of the country. It
is located on the banks of the Drava River, in a
hilly landscape between the vineyards on the
foothills of Pohorje.
We will reveal the city's most interesting spots and
stories: Maribor's castle, the mighty cathedral and
the Franciscan church with its red bricks, for which
women received indulgences, the remains of the
Jewish ghetto and the city walls, Lent with the
Water and Judgement towers as well as the oldest
cultivated grapevine in the world, the town hall and
the plague memorial, narrow streets that were once
busy with different trades, and enchanting town
squares.
We will go down into the city's underground world
where there is one of the largest and oldest classic
wine cellars in Europe; here you can try selected
wines, symbolic of the wine culture in this merry
part of Štajerska.
If we can take boat trips on the Seine in Paris and
on the Thames in London, then why not on the Drava
River in Maribor? And with a raft at that! Rafting,
which has a rich tradition here, offers you a
completely new view of the city (optionally).
