Description
The Kropa Village is an old smelting and iron
forging settlement, a place of old iron foundries
and wrought iron. It is situated in a narrow valley
of Kroparica stream below the slopes of the Jelovica
High plateau. On this day we take you to the
iron-forging museum, where you will see the history
of the iron manufacture, from the 15th century to
the decline of the ironworks in the 19th century. In
one part of the museum there is a selection of the
artistic work of the master smith Joža Bertoncelj.
Afterwards an iron forger in a nail forge will show
you how nails were produced.
On the return journey we stop in the old medieval
town of Radovljica and visit an apicultural museum
with its ethnographic collection of beehives. Museum
displays an essential part of Slovenian history and
culture in general -the rich tradition of
beekeeping, which was most intense in the 18th and
19th ct. and it represented an important rural
branch.
